Role Purpose

Senior Manager – Financial Reporting is responsible for leading the financial reporting function of the airline and ensuring accurate, timely and compliant preparation of financial statements, management reports and shareholder reporting requirements.

The role is accountable for managing the month-end close process, maintaining compliance with IFRS, overseeing balance sheet reconciliations, supporting financing reporting obligations and developing a high-performing reporting team capable of delivering quality financial information and insights to Management, Board and external stakeholders.

The position will play a key role in strengthening reporting controls, improving close timelines and supporting strategic financing initiatives including aircraft acquisitions and PDP funding arrangements.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

  • ·Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting process.

  • ·Manage the month-end close activities to ensure timely completion of all reporting requirements.

  • ·Publish monthly financial statements including:

    • oIncome Statement

    • oStatement of Financial Position

    • oCash Flow Statement

  • ·Ensure financial reports are issued within approved reporting timelines.

  • ·Coordinate with AP, AR, Treasury, Payroll, Engineering Finance and Business Partner teams to ensure completeness of financial information.

  • ·Review journal entries, accruals, adjustments and period-end postings.

  • ·Ensure all significant transactions are properly reflected in the books.

  • ·Drive continuous improvement of financial close processes.

2. Management Reporting

  • ·Prepare and publish monthly Management Accounts.

  • ·Prepare quarterly management reports and performance updates.

  • ·Provide analysis of:

    • oRevenue performance

    • oOperating costs

    • oEBITDA

    • oWorking capital

    • oCash flow

    • oCapital expenditure

    • oKey operational and airline performance indicators

  • ·Support Board papers and executive reporting requirements.

  • ·Provide commentary and financial insights on significant movements and business performance.

3. IFRS Compliance & Technical Accounting

  • ·Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal accounting policies.

  • ·Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions.

  • ·Review accounting treatment relating to:

    •  Aircraft assets

    • Lease accounting (IFRS 16)

    • Componentisation

    • Maintenance reserves

    • Asset valuation

    • Financing arrangements

    • Revenue recognition

  • ·Support implementation of new accounting standards.

  • ·Liaise with auditors on technical accounting matters.

4. Shareholder & Financing Reporting

  • ·Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly reports to shareholders.

  • ·Coordinate reporting obligations relating to:

    • oAircraft financing arrangements

    • oPDP financing facilities

    • oLender reporting requirements

    • oDebt covenant monitoring

    • oEquity funding updates

  • ·Support preparation of reports required by:

    • oBanks

    • oExport credit agencies

    • oDevelopment finance institutions

    • oGovernment stakeholders

  • ·Monitor compliance with financing reporting deadlines.

5. Balance Sheet Reconciliations & Financial Controls

  •  Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled within approved timelines.

  • Review reconciliation status and monitor outstanding items.

  • Ensure reconciliation differences are investigated and resolved promptly.

  • Ensure reconciliation items do not remain outstanding for more than three months from transaction date.

  •  Escalate aged reconciliation items and control weaknesses.

  • Strengthen balance sheet governance and reporting controls.

  • Support periodic reviews of provisions, accruals and estimates.

6. Audit & Compliance

  • Coordinate annual statutory audits and interim reviews.

  • Ensure timely closure of audit observations.

  • Support preparation of position papers and technical accounting documentation.

  • Coordinate information requests from auditors and regulators.

  • Maintain strong financial reporting controls.

7. Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead and develop the Financial Reporting team.

  • Build internal technical accounting and reporting capabilities.

  • Coach and mentor team members.

  • Develop succession plans and training programs.

  • Strengthen skills in:

    • oIFRS

    • oFinancial reporting

    • oReconciliations

    • oOracle Fusion reporting

    • oTechnical accounting

    • oAirline finance

  • Promote knowledge transfer and continuous learning.

8. Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support optimisation of Oracle Fusion reporting capabilities.

  • Drive automation of reporting and reconciliation activities.

  • Improve reporting timelines and efficiency.

  • Support future finance transformation initiatives.

  •  Develop dashboards and reporting tools for Management.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • ·Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce.

  • ·CPA / CA / ACCA mandatory.

Experience

  • ·Minimum 10–12 years finance experience.

  • ·At least 5 years in financial reporting leadership roles.

  • ·Airline industry experience preferred.

  • ·Strong knowledge of IFRS and technical accounting.

  • ·Experience with aircraft financing, lease accounting and complex reporting environments preferred.

  • ·Experience with Oracle Fusion ERP  desirable.
