477 workers violating labour laws arrested in Oman

The Ministry of Manpower of Sultanate of Oman has identified 447 workers and charged them with violating the Labour Law during the period February 26th - March 3. Among the 447 arrested are 377 commercial workers, 53 farm workers and 47 house helps or workers in similar professions.
As per the report
- 258 workers to have been arrested were absconding.
- 176 workers were reported astray.
- remaining 9 workers were arrested for various other allegations.
Muscat leads the count of violators with 145 arrests, followed by North Al Batinah with 97 workers arrested. Muscat attracts maximum number of immigrants workers and also domestic workers in the Kingdom.
Another noteworthy news in the report is that 551 expat workers have been deported to their respective countires for violating labour laws. This makes the role of recruitment agencies in Oman more crucial. They should educated foreign workers recruited for Oman jobs accordingly and only awareness can save them from deporation.
